Start with a Core Concept

Every great AI character starts with a clear concept. Who are they? What makes them interesting to talk to? A good concept has enough specificity to guide consistent behavior but enough flexibility for varied conversations. "A sarcastic detective who solves supernatural cases" is better than "a detective" because it gives the AI clear personality and subject matter anchors.

Write the Personality Description

The personality description is the most important part of character creation. Write in second person, describing who the character is and how they behave. Include their speaking style, emotional tendencies, knowledge areas and quirks. Be specific. "Speaks in short, clipped sentences. Avoids emotional topics. Has encyclopedic knowledge of ancient mythology" gives the AI clear behavioral guidelines.

Create a Backstory

A backstory gives your character depth and motivation. It does not need to be a novel. A few paragraphs covering their background, key experiences and current situation is enough. The AI uses backstory to inform responses and maintain consistency. Include details that naturally come up in conversation.

Define the Greeting Message

The greeting message is the first thing users see when they open a chat. It should establish the character's personality, set the scene and invite interaction. A barista character might greet you while making coffee. A warrior character might greet you on the eve of battle. The greeting sets expectations for what the conversation will be like.
